Am I the only one who thinks it strange that Wednesday Journal, our “local” source of news, did not publish the very disturbing photo available from Mayor Anan Abu Taleb of his yard after it had been trashed by youthful self-styled revolutionaries on Aug. 25 — and even more disturbing, failed to editorially chastise their actions.

But not to fear. The Oak Leaves, our other source of local news did publish the photo on the cover of their Sept. 3 issue along with a lengthy and well-balanced article. Even more embarrassing, is the publication of the same photo on the editorial page of the Sept. 3 issue of the Chicago Tribune accompanied by a blistering editorial condemning the actions of this mob.

It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. Unfortunately, Wednesday Journal had neither the picture nor the words.

Editor’s note: Photos of the damage were included in Viewpoints, p. 25, along with several letters about the protest. Editorials by Michael Romain (p. 3) and Dan Haley (p. 5) directly addressed the protest.
